This web site is about author E. F. Benson, his life, his books including but not limited to the ever popular Mapp & Lucia books and BBC mini-series. I first happened across the series on PBS during the summer of 1995 here in the Seattle area and immediately knew I had to read the books.

The stories happen between the World Wars and revolve around Emmeline Lucas (Lucia to her friends), her good friend Georgie Pilson ("dear Georgino") and their lives & friends in Riseholme, London and finally Tilling, a small coastal town in southern England (modeled after Rye). Once in Tilling, Lucia toils to bring culture & gracious living to her new neighbors. One might also say she schemes a bit to wrest control of the social and arts scene from indomitable Miss Elizabeth Mapp from whom she initially rents the summer cottage known as Mallards . . . The television series begins shortly before Georgie and Lucia's move from Riseholme to Tilling.
